Producing food for our community on our lovely woodland site in Sheffield's beautiful Loxley Valley - and having so much fun doing it. Come and join us!
Happy Earth Day!
๐ฟ Community gardens are one way in which we can start to rebuild our relationship to nature, to each other, our collective knowledge, our health and wellbeing.
We are delighted with the quality of butchery from D R Binns. This is quarter of a pig that we got back this week. Includes 3 joints, a pork steak, 24 ish sausages, 7 pork chops and half a kidney. Lovely free range pork raised in the Loxley Valley ๐
We've been following Charles's no dig methods for a few years now - really recommend following his pages and especially his you tube channel for advice based on years of experience. As well as being productive his garden is so beautiful.
The pigs are Gloucester old spot x duroc so a great opportunity to try a rare breed raised in the Loxley Valley.
Cost is ยฃ150 a half, ยฃ75 a quarter. Please get in touch ASAP if you are interested.
We will have some Loxley Pork available at the end of the month. We sell as half or quarter of a pig and will include joints, chops and sausages all bagged and freezer ready. (if packed in well a quarter fills a standard size freezer drawer with a little left over).
@Saralimback It's sometimes hard to find a balance though. We are really happy to help people set up similar projects but when you are asked to provide a list of things almost as a demand it is annoying!
@Saralimback We got a lot of emails wanting various info in the early days. At one point I think we had to say if you are contacting us as a employee your group already has more funds than us so maybe don't expect us to provide hours of our work for free. (we are 100% volunteer run)
Hope you all had a great Christmas! Our members enjoyed our home grown turkeys for the 10th year (one year we had goose instead). With COVID rules restricting guests to share food with we are all now enjoying post Christmas turkey recipes - please do share your favorites!
Our kettles have stood idle since March as we've asked volunteers to bring their own drinks but here we are putting them to good use defrosting the pig water!
Happy New Year! Looks like our scarecrow had a good time! We are back for another socially distanced workday but hoping we can hold some social events before 2021 is out. Stay safe everyone.
