The late Prime Minister of Ethiopia 🇪🇹 Meles Zenawi once said, ‘I am not worried that any country will suddenly invade Ethiopia, because nobody who has tried that has lived to tell the story.”

At least four countries have historically tried to invade Ethiopia more than once & they have all terribly lost. Egypt tried to invade Ethiopia twice, in 1875 (the battle of Gundet) and in 1876 (the battle of Gura) and they lost both. The Mahdist Sudan tried to invade Ethiopia three times, in 1885 (battle of Kufit), in 1887 (near Gedaref) and in 1889 (battle of Gallabat) and although they lost all they killed Emperor Yohanis IV on the last battle. Italy invaded Ethiopia in 1896 and terribly lost on the battle of Adwa & they come back in 1935 where the Ethiopian patriots battled them for five years and finally expelled them. Somalia under the ‘Greater Somalia’ project invaded Ethiopia in 1977 (Ogaden War), as the result of which they lost their state.
