A landmark paper for the group and a work we are very excited about: aggregation-induced photocatalysis.
In our new @NatureChemistry paper, organic dyes become brighter, more photostable and photocatalytically active when they assemble in water.

Just posted @ChemRxiv - we move from MOFs to COFs, with a slew of cool techniques that explain why a modified version of COF-300 can form a closed-pore structure. Great work from a new collaboration with @aet_ice and @rigaku. @LucaCataz@URochesterChem

Excited about this one! We leveraged our understanding of lattice dynamics and resulting polymorphic transformations to purposefully design dynamic molecular solids. Great team effort @LucaCataz@URochesterChem@UofR@ChemRxiv

The stiffest organic crystal of all—Organic crystals are typically considered soft and brittle, but recent examples show that certain structural characteristics can make some organic crystals exceptionally hard. Check out our new publication in @ChemicalScience, where we report that the crystals of mucic (galactaric) acid have now set a new standard for the stiffest organic crystal ever reported! In one crystallographic direction, the Young’s modulus of these crystals is 50.25 GPa, a value that surpasses some metals, including tin and magnesium. Congratulations to @DP20907127, @LucaCataz, @SPGuerin and the other authors! Thanks to @NYUAbuDhabi@NYUADResearch. Read more about these ultrastiff crystals here:

This paper is very cool - might be the coolest result of my career. We bent a flexible crystal, did some low-frequency confocal spectroscopy, and directly visualized intermolecular strain spectroscopically. @UofR@ChemRxiv@LucaCataz@URochesterChem
