Norway is leading a campaign within European football to suspend Israel from FIFA competitions, according to Politico.

Norway is leading the push to suspend Israel from FIFA. The campaign is being led by the Norwegian Football Federation and its president, Lise Klaveness, a former national team player, lawyer, and UEFA executive committee member.

Instead of calling for boycotts, Klaveness is pushing football's governing bodies to act. She says the rules should be applied equally: if Russia was suspended after invading Ukraine, Israel should face the same consequences.

Norway has backed efforts to suspend Israel from FIFA over the genocide in the Gaza Strip, discrimination against Palestinian athletes, and Israeli football clubs playing in illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank.

The often mentioned $3.8 billion the US sends to Israel each year in military funding, as part of its MOU, is only a tiny fraction of the real cost that US taxpayers actually pay to finance and arm Israel’s endless wars of aggression, war crimes, military occupation, apartheid and genocide.

Leading economists, including Harvard war budgeting expert Linda Blimes, estimate the Iran war will exceed $1 trillion – yes, you’ve read it correctly! – in long term costs to US taxpayers.

The US could be funding schools, healthcare, housing and jobs for its people, but has instead chosen to fund Israel’s wars.

$1 trillion for Israel’s wars, austerity and rising costs for US taxpayers – not to mention US complicity in international crimes. Escalate BDS pressure to end all forms of US complicity!

When grassroots mobilizations forced 27 containers of steel for Israel's military industry to be unloaded and detained at the Italian ports of Gioia Tauro and Cagliari, this was a watershed moment. Yes we can — and yes, states are obliged to — stop the criminal cargo.

Months later, the containers are still there, and authorities refuse to answer crucial questions.

Italian MP Stefania Ascari has been denied access to containers held at the Italian port of Gioia Tauro. As confirmed by Italian authorities, these containers carry military-grade steel shipped from India to Israel, reportedly destined for Elbit Systems, Israel’s largest weapons manufacturer.

Now, port authorities must allow for their inspection — and, if their destination is confirmed, take a decision to prevent them from leaving their ports to reach apartheid Israel, where this steel will supply its genocide against Palestinians.

The BDS movement calls for escalating pressure on Italian authorities. Block the boats.
