MSc Clinical Anatomy and Education at HYMS | MBBS Medicine at KCL | interested in MedEd, paeds, LGBTQ+ stuff and Doctor Who | Getting through it 🏳️🌈 (he/him)
@soundsmythprod Yep, I’m hugely emotionally invested in Troughton and McCoy, but when I think about Doctor Who in the abstract, the essence or distillation of the character, it’s always Capaldi I picture
@TheDimmeh Given Chibnall treated the Doctor’s manipulation of Ace as somehow decent and noble, I’m kinda glad we didn’t get his version of her departure tbh
@SailorJDove Basically whatever your tastes in modern who, there’s undoubtedly going to be something somewhere in the massive oeuvre of classic to suit you!
@SailorJDove I think the biggest USP for classic who is the immense variety of it. If you want strong character arcs, rich themes and politics, Ace’s stories will be right up your street. There’s schlocky action stuff like Earthshock right next to the philosophy of Kinda
@Ethan_LMP I’m really conflicted bc engaging with other fans used to be such an important part of the community for me, but all I’m seeing on socials is relentless negativity that’s making me want to completely disengage
@RestIsPolitics@RoryStewartUK@campbellclaret How do we fix a crisis in journalism when local papers are deteriorating in quality and national news can be accessed so readily for free?
@pipmadeley My favourite experience with Royal Mail was a 48hr tracked delivery from London to Hull that turned up 12 days later having spent a whole week unchecked in a depot in *Antrim*
@scribblesscript I guess highlights two of the biggest problems with that era:
1) like killing off Tecteun, Chibnall threatens us with an interesting idea then actively turns away
2) the Doctor is a bemusingly passive bystander in virtually all of her own arc?
@scribblesscript I get that Chibnall wanted to have the Doctor’s origins completely mysterious and them not having a home helps with that… but even so, this is the least interesting way of doing it? Why not have her actively choose to reject them?
@Darren_Mooney I’m assuming the reality is “both, and he didn’t want to commit to one over the other” but who knows? And it works out as being tonally jarring jumps from one run to the next
@Darren_Mooney I can’t wait to learn more about the behind the scenes shenanigans, because each of series 11-13 feels like a completely different vision for the show that doesn’t match up. Did Chibnall want to do the fresh start reset of s11? The lore deep dive of s13?
@bmay How many rioters do we think are actually supporters of the far right, and how many see the collapse of social order as an opportunity for freebies? I mean who the hell turns up to a riot with a shopping basked
@danielmcelroy0 Think there’s an element of Trump actively wanting a non-entity for VP so there’s nobody to upstage him or claim they helped him win the presidency
@mstotty88 Then overnight paeds surg trainees don’t do on calls so first point of contact is adult surgical on-call! It’s only escalated to on call paeds cons if there’s a serious concern
@mstotty88 It’s a v strange structure where paeds has dedicated gen surg and ortho services, all other specialties are from parent teams over in the adult hospital
