Having a large amount of equity makes you a bigger target. If you have an asset like your home that someone can sue against, a PI lawyer will lick his chops at you versus the guy who is leveraged. You may tell yourself you are “debt free,” but you are not “risk free.”

This is such a ridiculous statement. No, paying off your home is not "one of the worst financial moves you could make in your entire life". It's actually fine. Can you carry a low rate mortgage and eke out some additional gains with the surplus? Sure. But being debt free and having outright ownership of one's home HAS VALUE that cannot be measured. Stop criticizing people for doing this.
