There is not a single climate scenario that decarbonizes energy and land use fast enough to keep us under 1.5C or 2C without also significantly *reducing* the energy and land use of rich nations. That is a fact, and we should be talking about it.
A civilisation that is incapable of self-limitation in its relationship to the living world can hardly be described as a civilisation at all. Surely this is the most basic litmus test of collective awareness and cooperation.
