Bonnie was stamped out of Kenya, and stamped into Tanzania. He entered legally. Now he’s being held incommunicado and the Kenyan government is silent. Worse, they’re complicit.
Every Kenyan passport literally says the govt will protect and assist us abroad. So why isn’t that happening? This is a straight-up breach of duty and diplomatic obligation.
This silence also breaks international law; both Kenya and Tanzania are signed on to the ICCPR, which protects against this kind of abuse.
And what happened to East African unity? #JumuiyaNiYetu isn’t just a slogan. The EAC stands for human rights and accountability -?or is that only when it’s convenient?

Can we take legal action against the Kenyan government for failing to do what it promised in its own passport?

What happened to Boniface Mwangi in Tanzania is a stain on the conscience of the East African Community.
@bonifacemwangi was arrested before he could attend a public court hearing by authorities in Tanzania. No charge. No lawyer. No access to his consulate and torture in silence.

This is not just a violation of rights, it is a betrayal of the promise of Jumuiya. This is a direct assault on our shared East African values.

We carry one passport. It must mean something. We walk with one freedom. Jumuiya means soft borders, free speech, freedom of movement, dignity and justice without borders. Detaining and torturing individuals without charges violates the principles of fair administrative action.

If we are truly one people, we must defend each other when the state crosses the line. You cannot torture East Africans into silence. The East African Community must rise and protect its people. Otherwise, it becomes what we fear most; a union of presidents and not citizens.

If someone is wrong, charge them. But due process is not optional.

We must build a union of justice, not just trade. Of people, not power. If we can’t protect our own, we have no business leading a region.
