Peter Ortale, Duke Lacrosse '87, was a bonds trader on the 84th floor of the south tower when the twin towers were hit on September 11, 2001.

There were reports that the 1986 All-ACC honoree was seen helping others towards a stairwell to evacuate. That report was no surprise to his head coach at Duke, Tony Cullen, who said Ortale was a determined overachiever and one of the toughest and best players he coached.

Ortale did not make it. Today, we remember him and the nearly 3,000 people that lost their lives on 9/11.
