Venezuelan opposition leader Enrique Márquez has been freed from prison as part of an initiative announced by the authorities to release political prisoners.

Márquez was a candidate in the 2024 presidential election. He and Edmundo González were the only candidates who refused to sign an agreement with the Maduro government.

Márquez was arrested on January 7, 2025, just days before Maduro’s inauguration.
