I can’t play a single musical instrument but I have always loved music. In writing my crime fiction novels I draw on the music of my late teens to write stories set in the 60s. The era is just as important as the setting to me!

I came across this rather unusual date plate on Blackfriars Street in Glasgow today. I'm presuming the date is 1899, but the mirror symmetry in the numbers is not something I've come across before.

This beautiful relief sculpture can be found above the door of the former Queen's Assembly Rooms on La Belle Place in the West End of Glasgow. It features the 5-stringed lyre of Linus of Thrace, who is credited as the inventor of melody, rhythm and lyric song.

It's penalised because it's the common breath of Scotland.
