Health Minister Hon. @CHRISBARYOMUNS1 on the proposed medical internship policy that would limit internship facilitation to government-sponsored students, with privately sponsored students expected to meet their own internship expenses.

It was a pleasure meeting @evelyn_brealey, Director of @CambGHP. Cambridge Global Health Partnerships (CGHP) has supported impactful programmes in Uganda, including maternal & neonatal health, paediatric cancer, the SCALE Critical Care programme

🔥 This is exactly what we want to hear from our leaders- the truth!
A balanced opinion indeed!
🔥 Thank you Hon @BaryomunsiChris 🙏
🔥 The policy is very good+ it just has to protect our most vulnerable - the medical interns.

Happy to see one of our own, Andrew Kabuura, representing Uganda on SuperSport’s 2026 FIFA World Cup coverage team, featuring with stars like John Terry. Congratulations!
❝The oath that doctors take has made us prisoners of our own profession. The five-year course is already too long for parents to sustain, and extending it by another year without facilitation is unfair and a violation of human rights. Stakeholders must be listened to when addressing this matter. We should push for a parliamentary act to establish a permanent policy that safeguards the future of interns. My first priority should be the life of my patients, I should not be attending to them while worrying about food, accommodation, or transport.❞

We also appeal to government to rethink the medical training policy, especially the requirement for universities to keep medical students for six years. Yet, we only have a five-year curriculum for medical training.
If the ministry requires that medical students only graduate after completing their internship, we shall have a challenge because we do not have a curriculum for the sixth year:- Prof Muhammed Ngoma VC @kiuvarsity
