I had such a great experience at the SSA tomography meeting in Toronto, Canada. @SeismoSocietyAm did a terrific job in gathering the experts in tomography around the world, thank you for giving me the opportunity to share the science I do at @USC_earth!
Grad students and early career scientists are invited to “Apply-to-Sail” on a 29-day cruise to deploy 53 ocean bottom seismometers on the deep seafloor between the Galápagos Islands and the Western GSC. See more info:

!! New paper alert !!
Long-term slow slip events (up to Mw7.5) silently occur every ~4 yrs in the Guerrero Seismic Gap, Mexico. We demonstrate that the Cocos 3D flat-slab geometry aids slow slip dynamics ...

My paper about numerical simulations of near-field tsunamis in Mexico is out! Thanks to Sebastian (@acelerogram), Diego (@geosmx) and Miguel!

@VincenzoVinconv I used Hercules (Tu et al., 2006; Taborda et al., 2010) which is a finite-element parallel code that uses tie-linear elements and relies on an octree-based approach to mesh generation and memory management.
I have been working on 3D waveform tomography on Southern California. The first step is to generate the synthetic waveforms. This cool animation shows 200 s of waveform propagation from a Mw 5.5 earthquake in SoCal.
Today, I received the award from @UGeofisicaMex for the second place in the first online contest. Alan Juarez, Anahi Carrera and I represented @USC_earth in Mexico!
Btw, I’m writing about stochastic earthquake forecasts. I assumed a Poisson-Gamma model to update UCERF3-TI rates (prior PDF) given RSQSim-TI rates (likelihood function) under a Bayesian Calibration.
Following an advice by @xyolipc: “Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working!” Trying to finish writing what could end up being either a paper or my quals proposal.
