You’re the first to actually ask me that here on twitter! 😁 so THANK YOU! here’s my full answer:
The world needs more lawyers because great lawyers are uniquely equipped to galvanize progress. They have exclusive access to the most consequential advocacy venues (courtrooms) that no other advocate can enter. And unlike other disciplines that teach advocacy in the abstract, law school, through the Socratic method and frameworks like IRAC, specifically trains a form of structured storytelling that maps onto how people actually process arguments and get moved to act. That combination, institutional access plus a distinctive persuasive toolkit, makes great lawyers one of the most powerful forces for change available.
Like any professional credential, the license is only as valuable as the skill behind it, but more lawyers overall would increase the number of great lawyers making a difference for their clients and communities!
IMO lawyers are now, more than ever, able to focus on that which provides the most value to their client, rather than the administrative or routine items that often didnt appear as valuable to clients (initial draft creation, document review, etc.)
Obviously top level pay is not representative of what the typical lawyer makes, though. 😅
