At 83 years old, Mick Jagger still wants to go on full-scale tours with the Rolling Stones thanks to a level of physical discipline that’s rare for his age.
In an interview with Q Magazine, he explained his routine in no uncertain terms: “I work out five or six days a week, but I don’t go crazy. I alternate between the gym and dancing, then I do sprints and stuff like that. I work out to build endurance.”
When preparing for a tour, he logs up to 12 kilometers of running in the mornings, either on the streets of whatever city he’s in or on a treadmill. If the weather or his schedule doesn’t allow it, he replaces that session with an hour of swimming, kickboxing, or cycling, while also incorporating ballet, yoga, and Pilates to maintain the flexibility he needs on stage.
For years, that regimen was designed by Torje Eike, a Norwegian trainer who worked with Olympic athletes. The result is stamina that allows him to cover, according to his own calculations, up to 19 kilometers during a typical Stones show, without losing a single second of his signature energy.
