@FESonline in the Baltics is silent, while LT social democrats are building a coalition with a populistic party led by an antisemitic leader (despite promising that they would not do so under any circumstances). As a FES stipi and a social democrat I cannot believe my eyes 💔
A subset of polytopic membrane proteins, such as subunits of the GABAA receptor, remains incompletely inserted when translation is terminated. We describe an essential post-translational step that completes insertion of such proteins. https://t.co/jIKZxBMpH9
NEW: Conservatives are safeguarding scientific research from the denial of biology and the steady creep of political correctness.
@michelledonelan announces plans to depoliticise science at #CPC23
Thrilled to share that I've been awarded the Raff medal @Official_BSCB for my PhD work! I am immensely grateful for this recognition and the constant support from (the best supervisor) Manu and my bubble tea squad in the lab.
Big congrats to @VirginieUhlmann for being appointed as our Deputy Head of Research! 🎉
Virginie will support the coordination of our research groups, while continuing to lead her own group focusing on bioimage analysis.

@A_Amunts @CzerneckiD @Nature Thanks! Yes, we think that the first TMD(s) of multipass MPs use Sec61 or EM. For insertion of later TMDs, the multipass translocon assembles. But the secretory translocon (Sec61 channel and co) can be re-engaged to insert v. long exo loops. So the system is dynamic and complex!
Our papers are out in @Nature! In short: insertion intermediates of multipass membrane proteins recruit factors forming a lipid-filled "pocket" next to Sec61 and allowing insertion of TMDs there, independently of Sec61 lateral gate. N&V on our work: https://t.co/ylVOKnoRBB.
NERC just sent an email out recognising that the cost of living increase means its PhD stipend isn't sufficient to live on.
Their solution isn't to increase it, it's to suggest students start selling Avon and sign up to clinical trials...

Swimming Through
The performance “Swimming Through” is a call for action in support of the Ukrainian people who are facing genocide committed by Russia.
Als ehemalige @FESonline Stipi schaue ich mit einem großen Herzschmerzen und Entsetzen an, wie die SPD geführte Regierung in dieser Krise handelt. #banSWIFT#StandWithUkriane
