An academic (political scientist) writes about the president's picks for the council of state.
'They are almost all part of what could be termed the “equality industrial complex”, something that dominates academia and has driven its descent into mediocrity.'

“Would Keir Starmer be a better Prime Minister if he went to bed with a good Trollope?”
In @CityAM, @WTMAtkinson picks up on @dcsandbrook’s argument that declining reading habits explain declining leadership.

@BelfColm74@LeoVaradkar Collins fought to inspire and establish an Irish state, IRA of 60s-90s murdered innocent Irishmen and women for absolutely nought. There are people today without husbands, wives, brothers, sisters, children, etc because of the cowardice of northern paramilitaries
@LeoVaradkar Our victims and the relatives of the deceased are forced to endure these eulogies by Sinn Fein. Your condemnation and moral clarity is most welcome.
Deliberately bombing a pub (a civilian target) is a war crime and should be acknowledged as such. We should not have a different standard for Irish republicans than we would for the Russian army or the IDF. The case for Irish unification and a New Ireland is not helped by attempts to whitewash history.
The Disneyfication of terrorism.
Edward O'Brien was an IRA terrorist, killed in 1996 by his own bomb, whilst he was engaged in an act of terrorism.
His bomb contained Semtex plastic explosives. It exploded prematurely whilst he was on a double-decker bus in London. O'Brien, as with so many other terrorists, didn't give a damn about the people around him, the people he was knowingly endangering, whilst carrying a bomb in a public place. His fellow IRA terrorists regularly transported bombs, including van bombs containing a tonne or more of explosives, through heavily built up areas, full of people.
The explosion killed O'Brien the terrorist. It also injured the other passengers and people in cars that were adjacent to the bus. The bus driver lost his hearing.
That's the truth about the IRA terrorist named Edward O'Brien. He wasn't a patriot or a hero and he's not a martyr. He's just a dead terrorist, killed by his own bomb, whilst fighting for a "cause" in an "armed struggle" that his leadership had long before realised was doomed to fail.
The Republic is not ready for a "united Ireland".
Can't even show the slightest bit of decency by leaving alone remembrance wreaths for the war dead from the great war and second world war. Disgusting hoods thugs.
