Melissa High School head coach Stephen Friar has built the program’s culture around a community-first mentality and developing young men beyond the basketball court.

For Friar, being part of Melissa Basketball means understanding that players represent something bigger than themselves. He wants his players to serve others, give back to their community and grow into people the program can be proud of.

“We want to make sure they’re not just good basketball players, but good people.”

It’s a philosophy Friar continues to instill throughout the program as Melissa builds a culture centered around serving others and doing things the right way.

Melissa Basketball put its talent on display at the Teamarete event, bringing plenty of energy and competitiveness to the floor.

Melissa showed off its playmaking, athleticism and ability to play together, making plays on both ends and giving another strong look at the depth throughout the program.

A talented group with plenty to build on as Melissa continues preparing for the season ahead.

6'10 Kadon Gaines put together the best tape I’ve seen from him today at @Prospecscamp. The shooting has always been there but the real jump today was putting it on the floor. He’s initiating more on the break. The fluidity stands out at that size. He’s one of the more intriguing 2028s. D1 offers coming!
