#throwbackthursday to the creation of the PolySix & Mono/Poly 🤩
Before these two were created, the most popular polyphonic synths featured a novel concept: a five-voice polyphonic instrument with the capacity to store up to 40 distinct sounds & the monophonic synths had exceptional sound quality, exemplified by the 3VCO synthesizer, a decade-old sensation, BUT both came hefty price tags.
KORG decided to set their sights on creating instruments that surpassed the capabilities of these pricey machines while remaining affordable for all.
The result of this endeavor was the birth of a polyphonic synthesizer called "Polysix," living up to its name with a remarkable 6-voice capability—surpassing the initial target. On the monophonic side, "Mono/Poly" emerged with 4VCO, exceeding the expected specs. Both models were not just instruments; they were masterpieces equipped with arpeggiators and chord memory. "Polysix" boasted 32 editable memories and offered a spectrum of effects like chorus, phase, and ensemble. All this could be easily stored and recalled. As the name suggested, "Mono/Poly" could create 4-voice polyphonic sounds, and its effect section included synchronization and cross modulation to generate an array of unique sounds!
