@IAmCorrinKing@dirkgonnadirk@IsaacKing314 It is true that the literal meaning of "Monday at midnight" is the minute that follows 11:59 PM on Sunday.
But it is also true that 99% of people who say "Monday at midnight" are instead referring to the minute that follows 11:59 PM on Monday.
@rodrigulido@shinjichelsista We're talking about a hypothetical world where our best young athletes are choosing soccer. For that world to occur, soccer would need to be as popular here as it is elsewhere, and in that case we would have more resources going to soccer development to get those things up to par
@zviadWapasha@ardipcrnyannisa@JinpachiEgo7 They have a similar size player pool and similar resources devoted to soccer, and so are on a similar level to one another.
If soccer were the most popular sport in the US, we would devote similar levels of resources, while also having a large player pool. You do the math.
@ardipcrnyannisa@zviadWapasha@JinpachiEgo7 Bruh, this entire discussion is about thy hypothetical situation where the soccer is the top US sport. In this hypothetical, we would have all those things too
@zviadWapasha@ardipcrnyannisa@JinpachiEgo7 But right now for us most of those kids are choosing other sports instead, and most of those resources are going to other sports instead.
@zviadWapasha@ardipcrnyannisa@JinpachiEgo7 The US has a large pool of athletes due to our large population, and we dedicate lots of resources to sports. If soccer were our most popular sport, we would have a large pool of young athletes choosing soccer, with resources pouring in to develop talent.
@ardipcrnyannisa@JinpachiEgo7 No, most of them won't, same as it is in Europe or anywhere else in the world.
But if all of our athletic kids were playing soccer, then some of them will develop those technical skills, same as it is in Europe or anywhere else in the world.
@REdebtlawyer@JinpachiEgo7 But at this point I don't even know what you're arguing. You already agreed that if we had more players in the player pool, the US would be better, which has been my point the whole time. So why push back so hard on something you agree with?
@REdebtlawyer@JinpachiEgo7 far more than 10% of kids play soccer.
I also never claimed that the children choosing soccer were less athletic. Just that a higher percentage of our athletic children are choosing other sports, while in other countries most such children play soccer from a young age.
@REdebtlawyer@JinpachiEgo7 And yeah, of course you could say it about any sport. But our main sports are losing less talent, because kids are more likely to choose them
@REdebtlawyer@JinpachiEgo7 Other sports here are so culturally dominant that there are still tons of kids who would be better suited to soccer playing those other sports instead.
What I'm calling "the most athletic kids" are the ones who have a chance to go pro in a sport, so they are the relevant ones.
@jonR1939056@NobletStrength Magic Johnson specifically, no. Too tall. If our best young athletes played soccer, most of the top players we would develop would not overlap with our current pro athletes. The few that did overlap would be smaller than Magic.
