A 20-year-old Detroit man is dead and a 19-year-old Pontiac woman is injured following a shooting at an after prom party in Hazel Park. Investigators say a fight broke out before the shots were fired. WWJ's Luke Sloan reports no suspects are in custody.

The Detroit Grand Prix officially begins Friday with free prix day. Thousands of people will watch cars race down Jefferson Ave at speeds of nearly 200 miles per hour. That's where WWJ's Luke Sloan reports preparations are finishing up, which means some street closures downtown.

The Detroit Zoo welcomed the first guests to its brand-new discovery trails as part of a ribbon-cutting ceremony this morning. The seven-acre attraction is expected to boost zoo visitation by 12 percent.

Strong thunderstorms last night left parts of Metro Detroit with damage. In St. Clair Shores, part of a tree fell onto a home across the street from Lake Shore High School. Damage was also reported in Eastpointe and Roseville.

A new Meijer opens one week from today at the corner of Rochester Road and Tienken, just north of downtown Rochester. Meijer celebrated the grand opening today by donating $15,000 to Leader Dogs for the Blind.

The first of 250 flashing stop signs have been installed in front of Pardee Elementary School in Dearborn Heights, an intersection where a 12-year-old boy was hit and killed in 2022. Parents are happy, and feel the area is much safer for their children.

A water main break has closed the intersection of South Center and Fairbrook Street in Northville. The break was first reported at 3:30 a.m. Crews are on scene making repairs. The area will be shut down until further notice.

The historic Leland House in downtown Detroit will soon be up for auction, the latest in a dramatic saga that began in November, when the building's owner filed for bankruptcy. WWJ's Luke Sloan reports residents will soon be let back into the building to gather their belongings.

The National Weather Service has confirmed to WWJ that eight tornadoes touched down in Michigan late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning. In Ann Arbor, an EF-1 tornado caused damage at the University of Michigan.

An update to a story you've been hearing this morning on WWJ: crews have now filled the giant pothole that caused dozens of flat tires this morning on northbound I-75 after McNichols in Detroit. The cars with flat tires have also been safely towed away.

Dozens of cars were left with flat tires this morning after hitting a large pothole in the right lane of northbound I-75 after McNichols. Some drivers made it to a nearby gas station. MDOT has confirmed with WWJ that the pothole will be filled this morning.
