The Detroit Zoo welcomed the first guests to its brand-new discovery trails as part of a ribbon-cutting ceremony this morning. The seven-acre attraction is expected to boost zoo visitation by 12 percent.

Strong thunderstorms last night left parts of Metro Detroit with damage. In St. Clair Shores, part of a tree fell onto a home across the street from Lake Shore High School. Damage was also reported in Eastpointe and Roseville.

A new Meijer opens one week from today at the corner of Rochester Road and Tienken, just north of downtown Rochester. Meijer celebrated the grand opening today by donating $15,000 to Leader Dogs for the Blind.

The first of 250 flashing stop signs have been installed in front of Pardee Elementary School in Dearborn Heights, an intersection where a 12-year-old boy was hit and killed in 2022. Parents are happy, and feel the area is much safer for their children.
A water main break has closed the intersection of South Center and Fairbrook Street in Northville. The break was first reported at 3:30 a.m. Crews are on scene making repairs. The area will be shut down until further notice.

The historic Leland House in downtown Detroit will soon be up for auction, the latest in a dramatic saga that began in November, when the building's owner filed for bankruptcy. WWJ's Luke Sloan reports residents will soon be let back into the building to gather their belongings.
