I'm delighted for Nigel Farage. According to @nberpubs, Brexit gave our country a 6-8% reduction in GDP per capita, a 12-18% reduction in Investment & a 3-4% reduction in productivity. But it gave Nigel Farage a gift of £5millon. So that's alright.
The media is in full blood lust and may
soon be feeding off a 7th PM in 10 years. Our politics looks increasingly unserious. Although Labour MPs have lots of justifiable concerns, a little pause for thought might yet be good for both them and the country.
Whatever complaints MPs have about Keir Starmer, they are now descending into the kind of headless chickenry that - whatever and whoever the outcome - will make the situation even worse for Labour. If there is a grand plan starring Catherine West and a few PPSs, then it doesn’t feel terribly thought through. A period of calm would do none of them any harm. The general election is a fair way off. The next legislative programme is about to be unveiled. There are better ways to reach such an important decision and better times too. You are MPs not commentators who exist to feed a frenzy.
If Starmer is forced out, he’ll be the fifth PM in a row to last less than a full term. There are some structural issues making the job near impossible. Changing the name above the door won’t fix it.
NEW: Catherine West has just told me she didn't mean to write "in September" in her letter to MPs calling for a leadership elex.
"I shouldn't have written 'in' [September], I should have written 'by'," she said. She wants a contest to begin "soon" and leader in place by Sept 1.

Curling clutch shot! 🥌🙌
Rebecca Morrison plays "the shot of her life" on the final stone of the match, to seize victory from the jaws of defeat for Team GB.
The shot sealed a must-win meeting with USA, keeping GB's hopes alive in the women's curling at the Winter Olympics.
A reason why Hazel Irvine is such a compelling broadcaster is how she's always effortlessly calm.
She just handles conversations with such ease it fools you into thinking sports broadcasting is easy, when it is the complete opposite.
