From D1 Athlete to RN: A Journey of Recovery and Purpose
At one point in my life, I was a successful Division I college football player. But after a series of injuries and personal battles, I spiraled into addiction—alcohol and pain pills became my escape. My health declined, my weight climbed to over 420 lbs, and I found myself on SSDI, unsure if I’d ever reclaim my future.
Thanks to the support and structure of Recovery Ways, I began the long road back to myself.
Fast forward to today: I’m a proud graduate of Creighton University’s accelerated BSN program, and I now work as a Registered Nurse. In my first two years as a circulating RN, I was honored to receive the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses—a recognition that reminds me why I chose this path.
Today, I serve in a health and wellness clinic, supporting others in achieving their goals—mentally, physically, and spiritually.
Everyone has a comeback story. This is mine.

Nebraska has a good Defense. I don’t get it. It’s so frustrating. Either Indiana has turned into Alabama or we switched jerseys with Lincoln Lutheran on the Tarmac. (No offense to Lutheran)
