My article, “On The Move: Embodied Literacy and Symbolic Thought in Early Childhood,” was published in the Early Childhood Education Journal of the Alberta Teachers Association! The full issue can be accessed on their website #phdlife#earlychildhoodeducation#literacy
Block play is often associated with STEM and less with the Self. Blocks teach children to rebuild, to reimagine, to try again when all feels lost. Blocks teach us about stagnancy and grit - that sometimes our walls must fall for us to grow, albeit overwhelming at first #education
I am shattered. My heart breaks for so many, myself, my family and friends, and Mother Earth. Beyond all of that, who I cannot stop crying for is all the babies who will be born into this world, with no families and dead mothers, with no future and homes, and on a burning planet.
@wargojon I wish I was going! It’s during my last week of school with my kiddos, so I can’t fly out of the country. Last year I was able to swing it because Buffalo is so close for me. I did apply to AERA and will be attending Ethnography in Education at UPenn in February, though!
I looooove group #fitness and online fitness classes, but I wish #trainers would stop saying “you just did more work in [x]-minutes than others do in a week.” We can be motivated and feel proud without putting others down and without downplaying the complexity of people’s lives.
#phd candidates, ever have writing amnesia?! I’ve been plugging away, writing the dissertation, and opened an old file for a tentative manuscript and found ALL this other writing I did! No recollection whatsoever of writing it Thank you, me, for being me! #phdchat
Excited to share my sole-authored paper, “Turning Points Along Embodied Pathways: Bringing Forth Children’s Voices Through Artistic Ways of Listening,” tomorrow at #ISLS2024! The short paper is viewable at: https://t.co/0oHmrp9shx
Officially Dr. Paulina M. Gutkin!
Incredibly grateful for everyone who made this dream a reality🎉Thanks @MedicalCollege for the opportunity of a lifetime
Can’t wait to start my surgical training at @StanfordGenSurg!
Part of supporting families is helping them to see children’s conflict as important to relationship building. Through conflict and repair, children teach others how they want to be treated and show others they respect their boundaries. Friendship in EC is so readily romanticized.
Me trying to tie the smallest thread ever to link a bracelet on a 4-year-old’s wrist: “I don’t know if I can get this knot”
4-year-old child: “You got this.”

After explaining why I will be absent to attend #AERA2024 and that I’m a kind of scientist who studies learning, one of my preschool students says, “yeah… because Mr. Muscat cares about how we learn” 🥹 #phdtwitter#teachertwitter
Prof @krisgu chaired this #AERA2024 Presidential Session, "Toward the Fulfillment of Full Personhood: The Persistent Invisibility of Latinx Communities Across Institutions and Educational Scholarship 3.0" in a reconvening of intergenerational Latinx scholars. #BerkeleyAERA24
So proud and grateful to present my sole-authored paper, “Turning points along embodied pathways: Bringing forth children’s voices through artistic ways of listening,” at #isls2024 in Buffalo! Here’s to centering children’s voices through artistic and methodological innovation!
