After weeks' spent focusing on judges getting it wrong in their sentencing remarks, here is Mr Justice Bright with a moving tribute to a victim.
In fact, he refuses to use that word, or complainant or survivor, saying they're 'demeaning'.
He instead refers to her as the 'hero'.
@NotThatBigIan That made me smile. ‘Hermit Kingdom, mired in secrecy& a self-perpetuating cadre at the top’- great tagline for the many strategies and business plans. 😂 Justification for AEDs was to balance cadre with more ‘Ops’ focused roles. But HMPPS is too broken to fix that way sadly
@NotThatBigIan At no point did I say delivery is stunning or it’s someone else’s fault; I said there’s plenty wrong. I know this as someone with decades in Ops and HQ who like many, is trying to improve delivery from inside rather than criticise from the sidelines. Have to be anon to do that
@NotThatBigIan This is HM Prison and PROBATION Service. Of the AEDs 2/6 have prison ops experience & 4/6 probation. The delivery arm is everyone under MJH, not the whole organogram. Of these 10/12 have own operational experience- 6/12 in prisons. Plenty wrong with HMPPS but this isn’t too bad
@MWStory@Tom_Westgarth15 ‘s piece strongly resonates. It saps so much energy trying to push through the challenges outlined; whether directed ‘upwards’, / towards governance, legal &bureaucracy, or through the daily fight to stop own team decision inertia and over-caution setting in.
In all the noise about jury trials today - know this:
If you drive a car / go to work / socialise / use a mobile phone / go to the pub / date / interact in any way with other humans then you could be wrongly accused of a crime at any moment.
And you’d want one thing:
A jury.
@PinkRubberDuck0@BBCNews Maybe go and research what probation staff actually do and then comment- because the prison population (eg those inside 🙄) is a small fraction of their overall work.
Can someone explain to me why @BBCNews are live streaming with commentary outside the @principalitysta for the @oasis gig? Who is watching such pointless drivel? How is that news? The commentators can’t even see inside FFS!
@darrengrimes I assume you mean PCS (one union) is threatening strikes… because I’m sure you wouldn’t want to imply over 500,000 people from all walks of life share this view would you? 🙄
The Gov should cut the Civil Service. But to do that it needs to:
1.Change CS policies so it’s easier to let go of underperforming staff
2.Expect less - you cut policy teams you’ll get less quick briefs.
3. Invest in AI and digital tools
4. Change the culture /endless governance
