I used a Sensodyne (toothpaste) yesterday and could tell immediately that it was fake. Ordered another pack from a different store. Side by side, the packaging is near identical. The only way to know is to use the fake one and find out.

It could have been drugs.

Nigeria’s regulators need to do far more about counterfeit medicines and consumer products. This is not about money lost. Lives are at stake.

There is something that is killing our generation with respect to inter-gender relations. That is strength or the need to be seen as strong.

In projecting strength, many of you have desensitised yourselves from emotional attachment and vulnerability. In extreme instances, you become toxic. That is not healthy.

It is okay to be kind. It is okay to be nice. It is okay to be considerate. It is okay to have affection. It is okay to say "I love you." It is okay to say "I miss you." It is okay to apologize. It is okay to be vulnerable. You cannot love without being naked on all plane.

Kindness and compassion are not weakness. Consideration is not weakness. You are not a sucker for being honourable, for having integrity and for treating others with respect. Let's not destroy the fabric of society by losing our humanity. We need each other.

In every sphere of human relationship, there is an acceptable code of conduct. Please have healthy value system and stick to them.

Importantly, don't take people's grace and kindness for granted. Nobody is stupid for loving you, for treating you with respect, for being vulnerable with you, for forgiving you, for being nice. Returning a person's kindness towards you with a negative attitude is witchcraft. Do better! The relationships in our lives should inspire us to want to be better because we owe it to these people to do right by them. Nobody can do life alone. We are each other's life raft.

Beyond telling us the woman’s painful ordeal, this video reminds us of a collective Nigerian problem - the “Culture of Nonchalance.”

Nigeria, as a country, is steeped in a historical culture of negligence or nonchalance, also referred to as the “I don't care attitude.” I don't only consider it a behavioral vice, I also see it as a (spiritual) spell on Nigerians.

What else explains why we never take things seriously, as a people? Why do we never agree with let alone keep time? Why must we always appear late at events or respond late to invites? We just prefer to do things at the pace our bewitched spirit suggests!

This culture has permeated every facet of our institutions. You go to government ministries and agencies for something urgent and crucial, they will take ages to attend to you. They act as though they're in their bedroom having a conversation with themselves in the mirror. Unless you pay money to facilitate your request, you're doomed.

In the hospitals, the same attitude speaks and plays out. People who are entrusted with the divine mandate and grace to save lives, rather choose to act with so much aloofness that it makes you wonder if they should be in the hospital or disco houses.

Daily, on the roads, in the buses, in churches and mosques, and even in shrines, this culture of negligence or nonchalance plays out - in comical but absurd ways.

Someone steps on your foot, while fully aware of his offense, strolls by as though nothing happened. You call his attention to his fault, and either he draws you into long minutes of quarrel or he murmurs “oya, no vex” and moves on uninterestedly, with such annoying pride.

The “culture of nonchalance” is the reason Nigerians are not taking governance seriously, while suffering extreme consequences of bad governance. When it is time to vote and take the four years of their lives seriously, they tell the same old and silly story of, “Even if I vote, them go still rig am.”

Unfortunately, this behaviour was handed down to this generation by our forebears. We are also passing on the horrible behaviour to future generations.✍️

The young man appealing for public support for Nigerians living with kidney disease is doing something compassionate.

However, he must also recognise that dialysis cannot be sustained by charity alone.

Donations may keep a patient alive for a few days or weeks, but kidney disease requires continuous, reliable and long-term care. Without permanent support, many of these patients will still die.

This is why the responsibility must not be shifted away from government. Healthcare is a public duty, and every level of government must be made to answer for the growing number of Nigerians who cannot afford dialysis.

Those leading these appeals should not only ask citizens for money. They should also organise patients, families and communities to demand action from local government chairmen, state governors, senators and members of the House of Representatives.

Each representative should be required to present a clear, funded and realistic plan for providing accessible dialysis services.

Nigeria needs properly equipped dialysis centres in every local government area, staffed by trained professionals and supported with reliable electricity, clean water, laboratory services, medicines and emergency care.

These centres should offer subsidised or free treatment to patients who cannot pay.

Charity can provide temporary relief, but it cannot replace a functioning health system. Public appeals should therefore become both fundraising efforts and campaigns for accountability.

Unless government accepts responsibility and establishes sustainable dialysis services across the country, many vulnerable Nigerians will continue to depend on unpredictable donations until their conditions worsen and, tragically, their lives are lost.

I believe Nigeria should seriously consider restoring fuel subsidy in a way that brings petrol back to around ₦100 per litre or as close as fiscally possible.

If a policy leaves millions of families unable to afford food, transport, healthcare, or keep their businesses alive, then it’s time to re-examine it.

Economic models mean little to a parent who can’t feed their children or a business owner shutting down because operating costs have become unbearable.

Policies should be judged not only by theory, but by how people actually live.

Leadership must be courageous enough to admit when a policy is causing widespread suffering and be willing to change course.
