Planting willow cuttings in the Upper Lune today. We're hoping they take root and we can expand this trial next year to 1) increase shade 2) soak up excess water as part of natural flood management & 3) filter out excess nutrients from muck spreading before they enter the riverโฐ๏ธ
Earlier this week Jemma & Fiona held a presentation with @NaturalEngland to update farmers in the Keer area on sources of funding. People want to protect nature; often, it's a case of figuring out how we can with existing business plans and the funding available.
On Tues 21 Feb @thesixthform students worked alongside volunteers from the @LuneRiversTrust and @LancasterUni to undertake a tree planting/conservation program. Alder & Willow trees were planted along the banks of the River Conder to act as a natural flood defence. @ScienceRipley
Out exploring the River Wenning today. We met up with locals who want to ensure that the water will be clean enough for their grandchildren to play in ๐ Discussed which sources of pollution we can effectively tackle locally. Woodland creation to absorb run off is a good start ๐ณ

Jemma and I were out soil sampling for farms around Orton. The soil is being tested for nutrients & carbon; farmers will use this info to inform their land management practices. Well managed farmland = less river pollution ๐
Update! We are reactivating this account to give you the latest news from The Lune Rivers Trust. Our former Trust Manager Sarah is retiring, so Fiona the Woodlands Officer (left) and Jemma the Farm Advisor (right) are taking over this account. Feel free to give us a message ๐
