Who gets #lungcancer? A 🆕 study of 5,131 people with NSCLC found that, among those diagnosed, women were around 2.5 times more likely than men to have never smoked.
It also found that the proportion of people diagnosed who had never smoked increased from 12.3% in 2005 to 18.0% in 2024.
What could these findings could mean & are they part of a wider shift in how researchers understand who gets lung cancer? #LCSM

🔴 New in @JAMAOnc: Consolidative thoracic RT + atezolizumab maintenance vs atezolizumab alone in ES-#SCLC (TREASURE, phase 2)
• mOS 6.7 vs 13.4 mo (HR 1.55, 95% CI 0.90-2.69)
• mPFS 2.4 vs 2.6 mo → no difference
• SAEs 61% vs 18% | fatal AEs 19% vs 3%
⚠️Same PFS, worse toxicity, no OS gain.
🔍Small & non-confirmatory (halted early), but the message is clear: more is not always better. Selection is needed.

Adds to a growing body of evidence - if pts do not need PPIs, they should stop them and judicious use of antibiotics is important for many reasons. These medications have an impact on our microbiome, which is so important to outcomes with immunotherapy.

As we get closer to #WCLC26, let's ensure the meeting centers on what it means to live with and beyond #lungcancer.
We want to highlight the people the science is meant to help, not just the data. The fear, hope, side effects, good days, bad days, uncertainty, milestones, and everything in between.
If you are a patient or caregiver, please share what #LivingWithLungCancer means to you. It can be a word, a sentence, a photo, or a short video.
Use #LivingWithLungCancer and #WCLC26 to bring global voices together, and please tag @lpetrillz and @jillfeldman4 so we don’t miss your post.

One of the most important questions in oncology is not just how we treat cancer, but how we detect it earlier.
Studies like this highlight the power of collaboration, patient participation, and translational research in shaping the future of cancer care.

The future of #lungcancer treatment might start in the gut.
The microbes living in the gut, lungs & mouth help steer the immune system. A growing body of research suggests their balance may influence how lung cancer develops, progresses & responds to treatment.
Some bacteria seem to help the body fight cancer. Others may get in the way. Early science, but it points to a genuinely new direction.
