First full nest of the season!
Lapwing field work is fully underway!
It’s going to be busy going out to the 47 fallow plot sites around Hampshire and monitoring the lapwing on a weekly basis.

This is done as part of the Fallow Plot Species Recovery Project, under license.

MEET OUR STUDENTS: @LydiaFarnell is studying Wildlife Conservation & Environmental Management @HarperAdamsUni, and is on placement with our Wetlands team.

She is interested in a range of wildlife and is currently working towards a ringing license & volunteering for frog patrols.

Programming and testing Woodcock tags today, using a program called Pathtrack I can set the tags to ping a GPS point every 5 minutes, then I stuck them to a board, took them outside and moved them every 5 minutes to test the tracking accuracy.

@twentybore1 Passed with flying colours so don’t know what this is about 😅 you’re supposed to have two hands on the wheel to control the car and not let the tyres slip and I was looking all around not just out of the front or the side window, this is only a photo not a true representation.

Amazing wildlife, feeding robins out of our hands and saw red squirrels for the first time!
Nant-y-Pandy in Anglesey, recommend going there to see red squirrels, it’s a beautiful woodland there too.

Working alongside second and third year Harper Adams University students, as well as the RSPB and the Shropshire Ringing Group for the last week.

While ringing the storm petrels, morphometric data was collected to improve the recording of age and sex.
