This article quotes Alfred Whitehead “Civilization advances by extending the number of important operations which can be performed without thinking about them” I think this quote is very telling of our society’s need to always be more productive or quicker.

In the article “Are apps becoming a human crutch” app dependence is described as one’s full dependence on technology. This can hinder peoples ability to create their own identity and determines their actions. #HerlihyEME4390S23

Apps like google maps and Apple Maps can suggest activities to do in one area or restaurants. If someone is app dependent they will most likely go to the few places listed never experiencing other things. This also leads to younger generations risk aversion.

I agree that these all pose threats to our voting system, but it would be so nice to have an e ballot and would ensure everyone got the opportunity to vote by not having to stand in line at the ballots. #HerlihyEME4390S23

A question I have is how would the government ensure security with an online voting system when there are hackers, anonymous accounts and the dark web to look out for? #HerlihyEME4390S23

In America specifically, technology has had a negative impact on politics by fully allowing the population to be informed. I think a lot of the flaws in a two party system have been put on full display and cause people to question how our government is run #HerlihyEME4390S23

It was interesting to learn that Estonia has e ballots for voting allowing voters to vote anywhere they choose. I think this system would be so nice in America. Voting should be made easier not harder. #HerlihyEME4390S23 https://t.co/h5tRob2Gep
