Ms. Lydia Nabiryo, Asst. Commissioner at the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, in her address, stated that government is prioritizing corporate responsibility and the protection of fundamental rights through targeted capacity building for local government staff. By training those responsible for monitoring and enforcement, the initiative ensures that businesses operate with respect for labor laws and community well-being.

Key focus areas of the program include:

1⃣Environmental Protection: Ensuring businesses do not emit harmful pollutants into the air or water.
2⃣Labor Standards: Strengthening compliance with labor rights and actively addressing the challenge of child labor within supply chains.
3⃣Accountability and Remedy: Encouraging businesses to acknowledge their impact on communities and implement mitigation measures or actions to remedy harms.
4⃣Leveraging Influence: Using the position of larger buyers to influence outgrowers and suppliers toward more responsible business practices.
