Backed by UK investment, this substation will build on Uganda’s existing 90% renewable energy, and connect 400,000 homes, schools and businesses in Mbarara and Western Uganda.

The Amari Power Transmission Project has reached a historic milestone as Africa's first independent power transmission project to achieve financial close and commence implementation.

Addressing guests, the Hon. Minister of Energy & Mineral Development, @DrMusenero pledged Government's full commitment to delivering the project and honouring the confidence placed in Uganda by its partners.

The project is the first Independent Power Transmission Project in Africa at an investment of US$50 million.

🇺🇬 UGANDA ADVANCES AFRICA'S FIRST GOVERNMENT-LED NATIONAL CLEAN COOKING CARBON FINANCING PROGRAMME 🇺🇬

A major milestone has been achieved in Uganda’s clean cooking transition.
Following successful and highly inclusive stakeholder consultations in Gulu, Mbale, Kampala, and Mbarara, Uganda has taken another significant step towards establishing Africa’s first government-led National Clean Cooking Carbon Financing Programme.

The consultations brought together clean cooking enterprises, government institutions, development partners, financiers, civil society organizations, and technical experts to shape a national framework that will unlock carbon finance, support local innovation and accelerate the adoption of clean cooking solutions across the country.

📍 Consultations held:
• Gulu (Northern Region) – 20 April 2026
• Mbale (Eastern Region) – 22 April 2026
• Kampala (Bioethanol VPA) – 24 April 2026
• Kampala (Improved Biomass VPA) – 27 April 2026
• Mbarara (Western Region) – 30 April 2026

The strong participation and valuable feedback received across all regions reaffirmed a shared commitment to:
✅ Scaling clean cooking solutions sustainably
✅ Expanding participation of local enterprises in carbon markets
✅ Strengthening transparency through robust monitoring, reporting and verification systems
✅ Delivering climate, health, environmental and socio-economic benefits to Ugandan communities.
Together, stakeholders are helping lay the foundation for a national programme that will mobilize carbon finance at scale, reduce emissions, improve livelihoods and accelerate progress towards Uganda’s clean cooking targets.
