Panel Discussion: "Why ESG & Sustainability Reporting is Critical to East African Capital Markets?"
Members on the panel included : Charles Lutimba (ICPAU), Lydia Nakigudde (MTN Uganda), Jacintah Akino (USE), Edgar Ndani (NMB Bank), and our very own Alison Kwikiriza Serucaca, Legal and Board Affairs Manager at the Capital Markets Authority Uganda.
In her remarks, @AlleyIriza emphasized that integrating Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles into capital market regulation is vital for investor protection and managing systemic risk. She also noted that CMA Uganda is advancing this agenda through integrated governance reporting in line with international standards and developing ESG disclosure and sustainability guidelines to promote transparency and accountability.
She further highlighted the need for a regional harmonization framework to align all markets, noting that this would create shared opportunities across the region.

Today we take a bold step with @WWFUganda as we launch the #PachiPanda Innovation Challenge in Uganda. Together, we empower young innovators to Plant. Protect. Provide. for a sustainable future. #TogetherWeAreUnstoppable
Strong businesses only thrive when the communities around them do. That’s why sustainability is not just good ethics, it’s good strategy. A business cannot grow if the environment it depends on is collapsing, or if the people it serves are left behind.
Today, @mtnug launched its inaugural #SustainabilityReport. For me, this is more than a document. It is an act of transparency, a commitment to be held accountable, and a promise to create impact that outlives the present moment.
Sustainability is about doing today what secures tomorrow: building businesses that uplift while they grow, that protect while they prosper, and that include rather than exclude. Because real success is measured not just in profits, but in whether our growth leaves no one behind.
We were humbled to launch this report in the presence of distinguished guests , leaders from government, regulators, the diplomatic community, the private sector, civil society and shareholders, Your presence was a powerful reminder that accountability is shared, and that lasting change is only possible when we move together.
