A little while ago, an explosion jolted me out of my chair in my Kyiv office. It was the loudest blast yet I have experienced in three years here.
A building about two hundred meters from the 🇪🇺 Delegation was hit by a jet powered drone.
During daytime. The target was a hospital…
Earlier today a russian strike hit a building of Ukraine’s National Academy of Sciences that houses UARNet, the country’s academic and research network. According to the first reports, one person has been killed and three injured. These figures are likely to change.
This was also during working hours, with people inside working. The building was in flames. Several people tried to escape through the windows.
These two blasts follow days of almost non-stop alerts and attacks. On Sunday, Kyiv spent almost 19 hours under air-raid alert.
Two people were killed at a large food street market. Homes, schools, two kindergartens and data centers were also hit.
In Kharkiv, nine children were among those injured when an apartment building was struck. In Sumy, a bomb hit a residential area, killing two people and injuring dozens, including children. Today, in Dnipro, a drone directed at the city center killed three people and injured at least other fifteen.
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha is calling for a strong response to the attacks. He is right. Ukraine urgently needs stronger air defence and much stronger pressure on russia.
At the negotiating table, russia speaks of de-escalation. In Kyiv, we hear the loud explosions.
Do not ever believe russia when it talks about peace.
🇪🇺🤝🇺🇦
Hard to imagine a clearer indication of Macron's waning influence than this photo. He invited every EU head of state and government to Metz today to see the Pope. Neighbouring Luxembourg was the only EU country that sent a delegation.
A Russian strike against the building of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. A rescue operation is underway: crews are putting out the fire and searching for people who may have been trapped inside. All services are deployed. Today in Kyiv, a pharmaceutical company and gas stations were also attacked; in Dnipro, a business center; and in other cities and regions, civilian facilities, businesses, and communications infrastructure were targeted as well. Sadly, people have been killed… My condolences to their families and loved ones. Russia will definitely face a response to this. And every one of Ukraine’s partners must see from this terror, from these strikes, that supporting Ukraine means truly supporting people’s lives – supporting the principle that terror must never be normalized, anywhere. Russia must be held accountable for all of this and face real consequences. I thank everyone who helps Ukraine!
Earlier today, the Kingdom of Denmark, Greenland, and the United States reached an important agreement to strengthen the security of Greenland and the High North.
It respects the Greenlandic people’s right to self-determination and Danish sovereignty, while reinforcing our collective security through NATO.
Canada is an Arctic nation and a reliable NATO Ally. Through historic investments at home and stronger partnerships, including with our Nordic Allies, our partners can count on Canada to help keep the North secure, sovereign, and stable.
I welcome today’s agreement on strengthening security in the Arctic and North Atlantic.
My visit to Greenland earlier this month underscored the strategic importance of the region and the scale of the challenges.
Challenges we will face together.
As always, the EU will work closely with Denmark and Greenland and our international partners.
An important moment today.
Greenland, Denmark and the United States have signed an agreement strengthening security in the Arctic and North Atlantic.
It’s been a bumpy ride. But here we are – with a deal in hand that we can all be very satisfied with.
We share a long history. And we share a responsibility for the security of our region. Today, we take another important step together – with full respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark and the Greenlandic people’s right to self-determination.
History binds us together. Our future demands that we stand together. 🇬🇱🇩🇰🇺🇸
Hello world, meet Germany‘s equivalent to @NYCMayor Mamdani - Elif Eralp who just won a landslide victory in Berlin for @dielinkeberlin. She is on the course to become Berlin‘s first mayor with immigrant background, and the second Turkish speaker after Ernst Reuter.
Merz: "our reforms are the means to combat the poison that is penetrating deeper and deeper into our society through the allure of authoritarianism". Says he's going nowhere - either as CDU leader or federal chancellor.
