One of the main things we get wrong with kids in the modern age is, as Jonathan Haidt points out, we give them too much freedom in the digital world and not enough in the real world.
It’s one of those statements that hits as profound truth the second you read it.
It’s good to have fun at work… practical jokes, inside jokes, corny jokes, music, shenanigans, hijinks, tomfoolery, silliness… and lots of laughing. Colleagues that have fun together, work hard together. And ultimately, it’s a good culture in which students can learn.
Every kid you teach loves something. They are interested in something. They are nervous about something. They are good at something. I wonder what that something is.
