How to replace Romero?

Of course Romero is an incredible player, our best imo. I would love him to stay and still believe it’s possible

But people are looking at losing him in the wrong way, we won’t find a direct replacement. He’s too good in terms of both defensive capabilities and in possession attributes. We don’t have the budget or pull even if that player does exist.

In the words of Moneyball, “Replace him in the aggregate”

I think two players will help us adapt to life without Romero:

A CB who is:

- An aggressor to balance VDV’s passive playstyle
- Backline leader, who commands his defence
- Comfortable defender of the channels to allow for Porro to attack
- Comfortable on the ball (should be the requirement for all our defenders)

A DM who is:

- A progressive passer, who can replace Romero’s passing through the lines from deep
- A player who can screen the back 4 to allow for Bergvall to help in attack and arguably cover for a weaker defence without Cuti
- Someone who understands the importance of changing tempo on the build up phase, when to slow and when to speed up

Every club loses top players, just have to be smart
