There, she met with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng, a senior figure in the Chinese Communist Party. Chinese state media carried photos of the sit-down, which reportedly touched on strengthening U.S.-China relations.

The optics are striking: one of Washington’s most powerful political couples, with one fighting for his health at home, while the other engages directly with high-level CCP leadership.

Chao Family’s Deep China Connections
This episode didn’t emerge in a vacuum. The Chao family has maintained extensive business ties to China for decades. Elaine Chao’s father, James S.C. Chao, founded the Foremost Group, a shipping company based in New York. Her late sister Angela served as CEO. The firm has long benefited from China’s massive maritime and industrial growth. In one documented period (2018–2019), roughly 72% of its chartered cargo tonnage moved to or from China.

James Chao’s personal history adds layers. He fled mainland China before the Communist takeover in 1949 but maintained connections over the years, including meetings with figures like Jiang Zemin. The family took early stakes in Chinese maritime-related enterprises tied to state interests.

Elaine Chao has no formal ownership role in the shipping business, but the family’s success has intersected with her public life in notable ways. During her tenure as Transportation Secretary under President Trump, multiple ethics questions arose:

- Plans for an official DOT trip to China in 2017 reportedly included accommodations for her father and sister, with meetings that raised red flags at the U.S. embassy in Beijing. The trip was ultimately canceled over ethics concerns.
- An Inspector General report later detailed instances where Chao allegedly directed staff to assist family business matters, including interviews and events.
- Gifts, campaign contributions from Chao family members to Mitch McConnell’s campaigns, and joint appearances promoting the family business also drew scrutiny from oversight bodies and media outlets like The New York Times.

Critics on both sides have pointed to potential conflicts of interest. Supporters note that many global businesses engage with China out of economic necessity, and Chao has no direct stake. Detractors argue that such deep family entanglements can subtly shape incentives in Washington, where tough stances on CCP military aggression, IP theft, or influence operations sometimes seem softer in practice.

Broader Pattern amongst Elite Washington
This story fits into a larger, bipartisan pattern: prominent American political families with lucrative ties to the world’s second-largest economy. McConnell himself has a record of criticizing certain Chinese policies, yet the family’s shipping interests have thrived amid Beijing’s expansion. He’s scheduled to appear at the Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on July 23rd on the false charges of assaulting a police officer.

He could be sentenced to around 6-12 months in prison if wrongfully convicted.

But here’s what they don’t want you to know:

Cody was viciously assaulted by a group of black men on Broad Street in Birmingham.

Instead of protecting the victim, West Midlands Police arrested him while his attackers fled the scene.

They initially tried to downplay it as a “fight”.

Thanks to the footage shared on X, they were forced to admit it was an assault on Cody and are now scrambling to investigate the real perpetrators who got away.

How can victims of crime be so easily arrested and persecuted in this country and criminals are allowed to get away and even treated as victims.

This is two-tier policing in plain sight.
White victim gets slammed, charged, and threatened with prison. I hope Cody has good legal representation and for heavens sake doesn’t plead Guilty that’s how they will win.

Why won’t the Home Secretary summon the Chief Constable to explain this disgrace?

Demand full bodycam and CCTV footage be released immediately.

Demand the charges against Cody are dropped.

Demand real justice.

There was an internal affairs investigation that probed allegations of falsified overtime, it even included self-approving time slips (Very easy way to commit massive fraud)

Despite this she was allowed to just file for early retirement. She retired and was still eligible for roughly $16k per month
