@diontemcclendon Whew Chile! The irony in here is real thick, ain't it? Chile, please put a lil crying laughing emoji or something next time to help folks comprehend.
Black Historical Tea:
When James Baldwin & Richard Wright Almost Fought (And Tore Up a Parisian Cafe)
In 1949, a young Jimmy Baldwin published a scathing review of Richard Wright's novel "Native Son" in an essay he entitled "Everybody's Protest Novel." When Wright read the essay, he became enraged and decided to physically roll up on Baldwin (in person) at the trendy Parisian Cafe Les Deux Magots--where the two men were frequent patrons. Wright and Baldwin had previously had a friendly mentorship/mentee relationship---Wright was 40, Baldwin was 25.
Baldwin---who had a few drinks--essentially told Wright, "don't come for me, unless I send for you." Wright (who was the reigning OG of black literature at the time) warned Jimmy to stay in his place or the two of them were gonna have a "problem."
That didn't go well.
What happened next is one of the greatest Love & Hip Hop-level brawls in black literary history: Wright started swinging, Jimmy started cussin, tables started flying--and the novelist Chester Himes was the only person strong enough to physically subdue the two men.
In the years to come, James Baldwin would go on to become one of the most important voices in American literature. Richard Wright maintained his status as one of the most influential writers in American history.
But the two men would never speak to each other again.
Y’all please listen to My auntie snap 😂😭😂she was soooo mad because my cousin tried to make some macaroni yesterday with cream cheese and messed up the whole meal🤦🏽♀️ From Miami to Tally for some foolishness 🤣
I finished my PhD about 2 months ago, and I just want to share that:
*I spent >5 of 6yrs convinced that I was uniquely behind or lost or dumb
*I worked 50+hrs some weeks but 15 others
*Rest and hobbies helped my science
Struggling doesn't mean you don't belong.
@OpenAcademics
I wonder how White evangelicals would act if they ever realized they'd be the ones who killed Jesus. I'm talking about the real Jesus, not this fake version that they've washed all the seasoning off and sprinkled ranch packets and raisins on.
If #AllLivesMatter shouldn't that also extend to #GunSafety and not just in contrast to #BlackLives?
We can't keep putting the right to own an unnecessary and excessive firearm over the lives of precious people.
Texans are grieving for the victims of this senseless crime & for the community of Uvalde.
Cecilia & I mourn this horrific loss & urge all Texans to come together.
I've instructed @TxDPS & Texas Rangers to work with local law enforcement to fully investigate this crime.
