🌻1000% — nothing could make me happier than standing in front of Vincent van Gogh’s paintings at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam on 30 June 2026 — including the “completely Vincent” Still Life: Vase with Fifteen Sunflowers (Arles, January 1889, oil on canvas, 95 × 73 cm), the iconic yellow-on-yellow version from the Arles series — the series that earned him the title “painter of sunflowers” (see my pure-joy “so me” photo below).

According to the Van Gogh Museum, Paul Gauguin was so impressed by Van Gogh’s sunflowers that he called them “completely Vincent”. Vincent himself later wrote to Gauguin, staking a claim to the sunflower as his signature flower: “…then surely I, above all others, can lay claim to the sunflower.”

In a letter written in Arles on Tuesday, 22 January 1889, Vincent almost prophesied to Theo, declaring the sunflower “somewhat my own” (“the sunflower is mine”). He did not, however, correctly prophesy their future value: in the same letter he bullishly proclaimed that each of his sunflower paintings was already worth a solid 500 francs. As he put it:

“It’s a type of painting that changes its aspect a little, which grows in richness the more you look at it. Besides, you know that Gauguin likes them extraordinarily. He said to me about them, among other things: ‘that — … that’s… the flower.’ You know that (Georges) Jeannin has the peony, (Ernest) Quost has the hollyhock, but I have the sunflower, in a way.”

“If, for example, our Monticelli bouquet is worth 500 francs to an art lover, and it’s worth that, then I dare assure you that my sunflowers are also worth 500 francs to one of those Scots or Americans.”

Vincent van Gogh expressed this famous sentiment in a letter to his brother Theo, written in 1885: “Tell him that my great longing is to learn to make those very inaccuracies — those deviations, remodellings, and transformations of reality — so that they may become, yes, a magnified truth if you like, but one that is truer than the literal truth.”

#VincentVanGogh wrote this famous line to his brother Theo in a letter dated 2 June 1885 (Letter 502, #VanGoghMuseum Archives). I think Vincent subconsciously knew what he was doing.

I do enjoy reading anything about Liselotte and Vincent. I died laughing when reading Liselotte's comments about people. I laughed my head off when reading the story of Vincent's paintings "ruining" the appetite of the customers in Etienne-Lucien Martin's restaurant in Paris. Somehow they both are so me😅or I am still so them...

173 years ago today, Vincent van Gogh was born. In his many self-portraits, Vincent returns to his own face time and time again. Seen together, they form a quiet passage of time.

🌻 Does the bright yellow make you squint a little? Believe it or not, the dazzling colours you see in Van Gogh’s Sunflowers today aren’t quite what they once were.

Van Gogh painted the work with three types of chrome yellow. In the more than 130 years since it was painted, those pigments darkened – especially in the flowers and the lower background. Scientists recreated the paints he used and applied them in a reconstruction: instead of today’s deeper tones, the flowers once glowed a vivid, almost orange hue!

It’s a reminder that colours live, change, and age.

When Angie BaoBao got home last Friday evening, I was remarkably delighted to see her and greeted her with one extra word—“小/little” (her normal name at home is BaoBao or BaoNiuNiu/宝妞妞), “H-[iː]-llo, 小宝宝 (little BaoBao/baby).” She greeted me back intentionally with her cute baby voice, “H-[ɑː]-llo, 小妈咪 (little mommy).” Then we both had to laugh our heads off.

We always knowingly mispronounce the “e” in “hello” just for fun.

Vincent was lucky to have Theo; I am lucky to have BaoBao/Ra.

In the “Yellow” video below, the way the narrator pronounced “Gogh” was 1000% endearing.

"My life and my love are one." — The keep-on-dreaming #VincentvanGogh

"From which stars have we fallen to meet each other here" and to lighten each other up (1+1=3) on this final earth-journey? “And if that is not enough? What is enough?”

My one-and-only daughter Angie BaoBao is swimming in schoolwork. She still magically finds time to put me on trial—this court is now in session—even over the phone, “Mama, did you eat enough protein today?” I’m a vegan just like my mama and my mama’s mama. So my protein intake is of top concern to BaoBao and my fat intake is her second concern. Then I have to, from every angle, brag about the quantity and quality of the food I’ve eaten on that day—the bigger/fatter/more proteinaceous, the better. Hence, forevermore, eating food is my most fulfilling endeavour.

Is this karma that manifests in a less-boring way? When she’s little, I always worried that she wasn't eating enough.

BaoBao’s soul, back home on Taygeta, is considered as a child while my Lemurian-Taygetan soul is at least, millions of years old (in terms of how earth perceives time), if not older. Now this precious baby girl uses all her wisdom to be my life coach and persuade me to eat more fat, “Mama, You are as thin as a teenager (Me: Your Honour, are you complimenting me or insulting me); if there were a famine right now, you would be the first to drop dead (Me: Gorgeous); you’ll look even better if you could gain some weight (Me: But my best-looking body part is my brain); and adding fat to fruits and veggies helps your body better absorb nutrients (Me: Could fat help make my spirits [≠hard liquor] sexier).”

All joking aside, the judgment from the BaoBao-means-business Her Honour moves me remarkably and continues to move me eternally.

I do come up with a data-driven strategy to delight BaoBao—I eat less when she isn't around; once the Honorable Judge Angie actively presides and watches, I showcase myself passionately consuming more calories right in front of her very eyes as if it were my biggest fattest accomplishment.

📸A throwback to Beijing: The sarcastic way-to-Gogh look on BaoBao’s face (if looks could kill😅) when she got annoyed, although back then, she could not spell the word “sarcastic” yet. She was well dressed in cheerful colours, of course, by her then-stylist, my mama❤️

Speaking of cute little monkeys😇, excuse me, I mean kids, I believe on #Sheen that all grown-ups at any age could have children whenever they want since they become healthy, youthful, and immortal. Youngsters will eventually grow into ageless adults. Humanity is on its way to connecting, bonding, and falling in love more than ever.

As for me, I can’t wait for the Ascension to ignite Vincent’s and Liselotte (Madame Elizabeth Charlotte, Duchess of Orléans)’s multiple talents in me.

Angelina, a marvelous swimmer (who swims like a bird flying) and the finest tree🍁climber, loved ballet when she's little. Eventually physics became her favourite subject at school. She speaks French beautifully. Right now, she's too busy to play the violin/piano.

But at the soul level, #VincentvanGogh's is about real people and real life while it seems to me Eugène Delacroix's is like a staged drama which belongs to theatrical performers "ready for her close-up".

On Taygeta, Ra/Angelina often travelled with grandpa (Elder Ikai, Chief Commander of the Galactic Federation) and grandma (Aya, Goddess of Taygeta) on crafts. I am not surprised that Angie now is very interested in outer space, engineering, etc.
