I think the disconnect was really beneficial and everyone should take the time to realize we can still survive without our phones!! #eme4390m2021

[Caitlin McLaughlin @M11Caitlin]

I think I will be taking social media breaks more often because the digital turn off assignment made me realize how good of a reset it is. #eme4390m2021

[Caitlin McLaughlin @M11Caitlin]

I felt relieved, though, to be back online after the twenty four hour period. #eme4390m2021

[Caitlin McLaughlin @M11Caitlin]

I also realized just how much people are still online even during in person events and social interactions. #eme4390m2021

During my disconnect I realized that it is refreshing to be offline for a period of time. #eme4390m2021

@MLineberry3 I agree. It’s a big wake up call to realize how unaware most consumers are and how it is our own responsibility to save our data, prevent companies from profiting off our private info, etc.

[Caitlin McLaughlin @M11Caitlin]

The NYT article really speaks about how the majority of consumers don’t even realize they are being tracked. You must be aware and take the steps on your own to turn off these location services, data saving, etc. #eme4390m2021

[Caitlin McLaughlin @M11Caitlin]

The NYT article made me think about a feature on the iPhone where you can view all the times your phone has recorded your location and stored it... settings> privacy> location services > system services > significant locations... #eme4390m2021

[Caitlin McLaughlin @M11Caitlin]

If enabled on your phone, it stores a list of locations you frequently visit and the dates times and lengths of time that you were at these locations. Most people have it on and don’t even know. #eme4390m2021

A lot more people than are willing to admit are probably app dependent, as Katie Davis and Howard Garner discuss. For example, I rely heavily on my GPS to get anywhere new & I don’t think I could do it otherwise... #eme4390m2021

[Caitlin McLaughlin @M11Caitlin]

I thought the creativity study Howard Garner spoke about was interesting. Does having easy access and problem solving done for you all the time make us less creative as humans? Especially for children who are being born into the digital age.. #eme4390m2021

It’s shocking how much they know about the psychology behind why social media and it’s accessories draw us in so much, they’ve even capitalized off it. #eme4390m2021

[Caitlin McLaughlin @M11Caitlin]

@SaraTabbara4 I can really agree with this. I know personally whenever I’m bored or even a little anxious, I find something to do on my phone 😬 #eme4390m2021

[Caitlin McLaughlin @M11Caitlin]

@EllieLaburda23 More kids than ever now have smart phones and access to social media!!

[Caitlin McLaughlin @M11Caitlin]

I want to believe that all of the social media producers had good intentions... but is that still the case today? #eme4390m2021

[Caitlin McLaughlin @M11Caitlin]

We definitely aren’t the consumers, they are right, we are the consumed. #Thesocialdilemma #eme4390m2021

The amount of people who used to work for the big tech companies who are now coming forward to speak out about them is scary. #thesocialdilemma #eme4390m2021
