HB358 was a simple housekeeping bill and it’s clear from the veto message that neither @KellyAyotte nor her staff understood the bill or its history.

Considering this bill had Democrat as well as republican support, we feel it is possible to overturn the veto on this non-controversial bill that simply brings the law back into alignment with what it had been for decades and was mistakenly changed to a couple years ago.

This should be a lesson to @KellyAyotte that when in doubt, please consult with a legislator about the bill. The veto message was completely off base.

Governor Ayotte got this very wrong. Her staff does not seem to understand policy.

I put my name on a ballot because my son and other 8 year olds in his class were traumatized by a video shown to them about a child being s&xually abused by his uncle.

I sponsored the law that the Governor is referencing. It does NOT and CANNOT protect children from the harmful library materials being placed on school library shelves across the state. It requires 2 weeks notification of COURSE MATERIALS.

Library books, however, are checked out in real time by children without any parental review.

The NH Democratic Party—the party that has been targeting children for gender transitioning—who applauds s&xually graphic material in the hands of children (but asked us to stop reading from one of the books frequently found in school libraries because it was “inappropriate” in the hearing room) is cheering. That tells you everything you need to know.

Furthermore, I cannot wrap my head around the fact that, as a woman and a mother, she vetoed protections in girls’ and women’s spaces. My heart is broken over these vetoes.

I know that the trust of NH citizens who voted for Republicans who ran on these issues is also broken. For that I humbly apologize.

The Senate WILL vote to override these vetoes and will continue to fight for NH’s children. Please call your Representatives. The burden will be on the House to come
up with the votes in their chamber.

“As a parent, I understand and appreciate the concerns parents have about their children being exposed to age-inappropriate or objectionable materials in schools,” Ayotte wrote in her veto statement. She noted that current law allows parents to exempt their children from “course material” they find objectionable.”

The Governor of New Hampshire Kelly Ayotte @KellyAyotte played right into the hands of Democrats and liberal leftists and the LGBTQ activists yesterday when she vetoed bill HB148 a bill that would of given protection to women and girls in the state of NH from allowing men into women's spaces, sports and prisons. Her reasoning is stated below. "The Governor’s veto statement for HB 148 is below: I believe that Governor Ayotte needs to be more clear and transparent for her reasoning on the veto. I know bill HB 148 was flawed with language like gender identity in the bill which I disapproved of but still hoped she might pass it. Questions I have:
Why is it overly broad? Can she give examples? What does she mean an exclusionary environment? Women deserve their own spaces to change their clothes and use the bathroom just like men. What does she mean by the unintended impacts accompanying the implementation of the bill? And what law that is already in place that she speaks of at the end in regards to women's sports? Is she speaking of Title IX? We can see that many schools have actually disobeyed that law in the state of NH? I demand more clarity, transparency and answers form Ayotte. I never trusted her and well I guess for good reason. See below her reasoning. I'm someone who did have a man in the women's locker room.. This happens. And below there is a photo of Ayotte before she was elected Governor with a Save Women's Sports flag.. What a liar she is. I truly think @KellyAyotte has no courage to stand up to the Left and their radicalism to protect women's sports and spaces. “I believe there are important and legitimate privacy and safety concerns raised by biological males using places such as female locker rooms and being placed in female correctional facilities. At the same time, I see that House Bill 148 is overly broad and impractical to enforce, potentially creating an exclusionary environment for some of our citizens.

“While I believe that the legislature should address this serious issue, it must be done in a thoughtful and narrow way that protects the privacy, safety, and rights of all New Hampshire citizens. However, with House Bill 148, I have concerns about the broadness of this bill, the unintended impacts accompanying its implementation, and that it will spur a plethora of litigation against local communities and businesses.

“Furthermore, as the mother of a daughter who competed in three sports in high school, I have serious concerns about fairness and safety when biological males participate in women’s sports. State law already rightly addresses this by prohibiting biological males from competing in girls’ sports in K-12 schools. See RSA 193:41, RSA 193:42. While this law has been challenged in federal court, my administration will continue to vigorously defend it.

“The language in House Bill 148 addressing women’s sports is largely redundant and, frankly, weaker than the current law. This exact piece of legislation was vetoed by Governor Sununu last year, and for the reasons stated above, I have decided to do the same.”
