Today marks the second anniversary of my inauguration. #Taiwan remains committed to safeguarding freedom and democracy, maintaining the status quo of peace & stability across the Taiwan Strait, while advancing economic development to improve livelihoods for all.
Today, I met with Chui-cheng Chiu, Minister of the Mainland Affairs Council of the Republic of China (Taiwan) about Canada-Taiwan relations. Here is the readout of our meeting:

Dep. Min. Shen welcomed SEDE delegation, thanking EU Parliament for their firm support via concrete actions. Chair Strack-Zimmermann noted that Taiwan’s “Four Pillars of Peace” action plan aligns with EU priorities. Both sides agreed to deepen cooperation in multiple areas. 🇪🇺🏛️
DepMin Shen met a Czech-Ukrainian 🇨🇿🇺🇦 delegation led by Czech MP & Green Party co-chair Gabriela Svárovská to discuss polycrisis, whole-of-society resilience, and threats from authoritarian regimes. Both sides shared experience in countering pressure, stressing democratic unity.
DepMin Shen met fmr MSC chair Amb Heusgen to discuss the situation in mainland China and security in the Taiwan Strait. Taiwan thanked Germany for backing freedom of navigation and hopes to deepen cooperation. Heusgen praised Taiwan’s resilience, stressing democratic unity. 🇹🇼🇩🇪
Dep. Min. Shen met with German Bundestag Foreign Affairs Committee member MP Stephan Mayer, thanking him for his long-standing support for Taiwan. They exchanged views on working with like-minded partners and economic resilience, hope for closer cooperation in more aspects. 🇹🇼🇩🇪
Min. Chiu welcomed the TUPP delegation led by GMF Dir. Bonnie Glaser for in-depth discussions on cross-Strait relations amid recent developments in mainland China. TW appreciates the ongoing support of our international partners for peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific. 🇹🇼🤝🌏
Dep. Min. Shen welcomed former Czech 🇨🇿 Speaker Markéta Pekarová Adamová on her visit to Taiwan. The two sides exchanged views on potential cooperation, noting shared challenges from authoritarian powers & calling for more cooperation. The exchange proved valuable for both sides.
Min. Chiu met with Members of the European Parliament last Friday for a constructive exchange in cross-Strait development. They discussed cross-Strait economic & trade relations and Taiwan's social resilience, reflecting shared interests in peace, stability, and resilience. 🤝🌍
