So we're publishing it.

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Ahmed El Mekkawy, a cherished friend of the MENA Alliance for Digital Rights (MADR) and a beloved member of the digital rights community in the Arabic-speaking region.
His warmth and generosity touched everyone who knew him, and though his absence leaves a profound void, his legacy of integrity, dedication, and belief in technology as a force for human rights will continue to guide and inspire us.
Goodbye, Ahmed.
Who are we: We are the MENA Alliance for Digital Rights (https://t.co/pWN52Hc3Hg). Please share this guide with anyone affected, and follow our work at @MADRNetwork for updates on digital rights advocacy. You can also email us on [email protected]

On #WorldPressFreedomDay, we express our deep concern over the ongoing deterioration of freedom of expression and media freedom across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

We urge governments across the MENA region and tech companies to uphold their international human rights obligations and take immediate steps to protect press freedom.
Two years into the war in Sudan, up to 150,000 people may have died. Over 12 million are displaced, and more than 24 million face hunger — yet the true toll remains unclear.
Internet shutdowns and disruptions have isolated communities, limiting both reporting + access to aid. 🧵

🔒Digital policies, accessibility, and international complicity
🖊️Censorship and the suppression of Palestinian content

📢 ACT NOW: British-Egyptian writer & technologist Alaa Abd el-Fattah has been arbitrarily detained in Egypt since 2019. His mother, Laila Soueif is critically ill following her ongoing 108-day hunger strike.
#FreeAlaa
The UK government (@10DowningStreet) must:
1️⃣ Use trade & diplomatic levers to pressure Egypt.
2️⃣ Advocate directly for Alaa’s immediate release. 3️⃣ Demand consular access for Alaa.
4️⃣ Mobilize global allies.
