Victoria McTavish works with myth, landscape, story and materials to reflect on her experience, to imagine paths and ways through the crashing storms and the clashing forces of life and living. She develops new rituals and actions, joining materials in new combinations.
Sam Machell carries on telling stories in the face of trouble. The challenges facing humans and the plants, animals and ecosystems around us are bigger than any individual, are hard to envisage, to comprehend. In response to this we need new old stories and reworking of fables.
Neil Robinson’s practice operates in response and reaction to shifting weather patterns, the fronts and swells, currents and tides that he lives with and swims in.
Aldous George brings together contrasting styles, or aesthetics, folding and adapting the biological and the technical so they more clearly reflect their shared aspects.
You can see Aldous’s work at “In Spite of Bad Weather” at the Roland Levinsky Gallery July 1 - 11.
