You build goodwill in ordinary interactions long before you need it.
Leadership isn’t always about authority.
Sometimes, it’s about relationships.
Better decisions. Trusted execution.

Fixed deadline. Not enough hands.
6pm. About 200 gifts needed wrapping by 7:30pm. The airport was 30 minutes away.
I had three stewards.
I looked at the gifts. Then the clock. Then my team.
The maths was not encouraging.
#PrivateService#Leadership
The gifts made the flight.
But something else stayed with me.
Those colleagues could have declined.
How you treat people when you need nothing from them matters.
You cannot manufacture goodwill at 6pm because you suddenly need it.

But a good idea sitting in one employee’s head isn’t yet an improved operation.
Understand it. Test it. Document it. Teach it.
That’s how individual knowledge becomes organisational capability.
Sometimes your next improvement is already in the room. #staff#wisdom#process
I had the Food Science degree.
She had the know how.
One of the best improvements in my food business came from an employee who suggested a better way to prepare Egusi for a long journey.
I listened.
We tried it.
It worked beautifully.
That experience taught me something:
Knowledge doesn’t only come through qualifications or seniority.
Education had taught me the science.
Experience had taught her another way.
Good leadership meant being willing to bring the two together. #continousimprovement#business101
Everyone should start a business?
Please don’t.
I’ve lived on both sides. Employment and entrepreneurship taught me very different things.
Here’s what 23 months without a salary showed me.
#Entrepreneurship#CareerGrowth#BusinessNigeria
There is no medal for struggling, just because the struggle came from entrepreneurship.
Some people should build businesses. Some should build extraordinary careers. Some should do both.

For the first 23 months of his business, my husband took no salary.
There were contracts. There were wins. There were serious setbacks.
Today he’s back in a 9-5, thriving.

My mum was teaching me cash flow management in the 1990s. I just didn’t know I was attending class.
Every day, ₦1,000 went to the Alajo. At month end, about ₦30,000 came back.
Years later, I get it: not all the money you make today belongs to today.

Firefighting every day is not evidence that you’re good at operations.
Sometimes it is evidence that the operation needs fixing.
The goal isn’t to become brilliant at emergencies.
It’s to need fewer of them.

Nobody was watching.
No customer checked our hygiene, preparation or ingredients.
We could have cut corners.
But customers eventually know.
Inconsistency always finds its way into the product.
Standards matter most when nobody is watching.

Recovering money after something goes wrong is a much longer step.
A nice website helps.
Professional pictures help.
A convincing invoice helps.
But looking legitimate and being legitimate are two very different things.
Verify before you pay

“Mummy, I have do’d it!”
My four year old proudly announced after building his Lego. 😂
Years later, that same boy tutors others in English.
Never define someone’s potential by their starting point.
Today is not the finished product.

“This is beautiful.”
Great.
Then my principal said:
“However…”
An 80 guest event that was completely ready indoors now needed to move outside.
We had 90 minutes.
By 12:45pm, we were ready.
Guests arrived at 1.
They never knew.
That’s the point.

Would you fry Egusi before cooking it?
One of my staff told me to.
I listened.
The result taught me something bigger than cooking:
The person closest to the work may know something you don’t.
Good leaders know when to listen.
#Leadership#BusinessGrowth
Would you buy six months’ worth of onions today?
I did
A 100kg bag we could buy for around ₦8,000 in season could reach ₦70,000 by December
So we stopped waiting for December
Years later, I realised there was a name for what we were doing
Strategic procurement

“Stick to one brand of salt.”
One of the simplest business lessons I ever received.
It wasn’t really about salt.
It was about consistency.
Same quality. Same process. Same standard.
Customers notice.
