Some takeaways after my conversation with a hospice nurse of 12 years based on her experience:
1) Many people will not pass away unless they feel ready and this can sometimes mean getting their hair washed, being shaved, or having a bowel movement.
This is probably the only poem I've written that helps me through the loneliest of nights, when I feel farthest from home—when I don't even know where home is—and I want to share it tonight with you.
It was books that taught me that the things that tormented me most were the very things that connected me with all the people who were alive, or who had ever been alive.
