One week to launch! Appalachia Comics has paired more than a dozen local survivors with renowned comic creators like @BRIANMBENDIS, @geneluenyang, Matt Fraction, and others to create 'Islands in the Sky' as a monument to the storm that changed everything.
An honor to talk with @DrTLovesBooks - who does so much for love of literacy! Episode goes live tonight. We talked about -
1. Representation in comics
2. A great lesson you can use with comics
3. Wonderful books such as the @MARCHTrilogy (and @GoodTroublePro ) and @Fanbase_Press Ripple Effects
4. How we are all teachers of reading and how to connect across the curriculum.
Get excited! I just read and LOVED these comics from @GoodTroublePro@andrewaydin ! Out September 25th - let your comics shop know to order them now! I learned so much by reading them and can't wait to share with my students as I am currently rewriting my lesson plans! #TeachingwithComics
Just a fraction of who you will read about - Langston Hughes, Richard Bruce Nugent, Zora Neale Hurston, Alain Locke, W.E.B. Du Bois, Charles S. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, Marsha P. Johnson, A.Philip Randolph, Bayard Rustin, James Baldwin, Lena Horne, Mahalia Jackson, Ossie Davis, Strom Thurmond, Roy Wilkins, Larry Kramer...
As we mark the anniversary of the March on Washington and mourn the victims of the racist murderer in Jacksonville, it's a good time to return to @andrewaydin and @Nate_Powell_Art's March. It's both a detailed history of the Civil Rights movement and a manual for action.
In an interview with CBR, @andrewaydin reflects on the 10th anniversary of @MARCHTrilogy and his experiences working with Congressman John Lewis and @Nate_Powell_Art

10 yrs ago today, John Lewis became the first Member of Congress to ever attend @Comic_Con.
Some said it was risky, and if it went wrong it was going to be my fault. But the naysayers were wrong and we opened the floodgates.
I’ll never forget that panel. It felt like a revival
Ten years ago this week I was on the road with John Lewis and @Nate_Powell_Art for one of our first talks about MARCH and it’s importance for teaching our history… it worked, becoming taught throughout the country.
Now you have this.
It is not a coincidence.
Yes! The @MARCHTrilogy is truly the most powerful teaching resource I have ever used. It’s not memorizing facts, dates, and names. It’s living history. It’s the human “story” of the civil rights movement that will forever stick with students and powerfully impact their lives. This makes me so happy.
