Before you read this, take a glass of water.

Starting today, 1st July 2026, the Finance Act, 2026 has removed excise duty tax from your drinking water.

• Bottled and other similarly packaged waters will no longer attract excise duty.

Previously, you paid Ksh 6.41 in excise duty for every litre of packaged water you bought.

That has now come to an end.

In effect, this means:

• No putting KRA stickers in water.

• Lower production costs for water manufacturers.

• Less tax compliance. Water businesses no longer need to activate stickers or file monthly excise duty tax returns.

Businesses now have more room to either:

• Reduce water prices
Or
• Retain current prices and earn higher profits.
