Breaking: The Government has decided to cull around 126,000 cattle in an attempt to eradicate Mycoplasma bovis. The phased eradication will involve the mass culling of all cattle on infected properties and most restricted properties, at a cost of $886m.
We still have no clarity from @MPI_NZ around the situation for animals going to grazing from a NOD; or for graziers awaiting animals from a NOD over the next 2 wks. All cows HAVE to be moved from dairy farms soon so use NAIT and ask @MPI_NZ and @DamienOConnorMP for clarity
Bizarre ‘new information’ released by MPI last week, including the now-famous map- yet nothing has changed with MB. Utterly dumb why MPI would scare the farming community into thinking the current eradication isn’t working and isn’t worthwhile. We still believe in trace & cull.
We hear that MPI have decided not to make the blood test for M Bovis available to vets in the near future. Many of you were hoping to use this to assist your decision making. Our advice is to work with your local vets around assessing risk and best local advice. #vetsouth#mbovis
The Road Transport Association is holding a meeting for their Southland members this Thursday 8 March at 7pm in Invercargill (CVC Building). A speaker from MPI will be present to talk about M. bovis and how it relates to Stock Operators.
If you have had stock or waste milk and haven't been in contact with MPI we can to do that for you, in complete confidence. Email us at [email protected]. Finding the stock and waste milk from the index farm cluster is our best hope of getting on top of this disease 2/2
ERADICATING M BOVIS. We probably have a very short window to make a difference. What we need to know are all the stock movements and waste milk movements from the 3 original Center Bush cluster farms since 2016. MPI have tracked some but we believe there are many more....1/2
