Michigan Association of Vehicle Theft Investigators- we are in the business of identifying and recovering stolen vehicles and combatting insurance fraud.
I had the honor to speak to several Auto-Owners Insurance SIU investigators from across the U.S. this week on modern methods of vehicle theft. We covered critical topics including Synthetic VIN Fraud, types of keyless/ electronic theft methods, and transnational organized crime
One keys fits most, Secondary prevention methods such as GPS trackers, hidden kill switches, raised booms with torches/ generators suspended out of reach, and placing the heaviest machines surrounding the smaller equipment such as skid steer loaders. #heavyequipmenttheft#nerusa
MAVTI recently conducted our 30th training event of FY24-25. Several road patrol officers and detectives from across Michigan attended the event hosted by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office in Howell, MI. Attendees were trained in modern methods of auto theft. #autotheft
Had the pleasure of emceeing the MI Auto Theft Prevention Authority (ATPA) Training Conference this week. We had 66 auto theft investigators and detectives from across the state. Great presentations from Ford Motor Company, MI Department of State, & MSP. Thx to ICSO for hosting!
Let’s make our voices heard on predatory towing, @MAVTI_Training membership! @detroitpolice, how about a session #4 for insurer horror stories? @freep https://t.co/9RrRu48Ib4
One of our young Detective Troopers assigned to the MDART auto theft team in Livonia took some rounds last night and is in surgery, he was able to return fire and eliminate the threat. Say a prayer for his recovery if you would. #autotheftisnotjustapropertycrime
Auto theft in the U.S. is often linked to international organized crime; the ill- gotten gains received from our stolen vehicles is funding our enemies abroad just as illicit drugs do. #autotheft#organizedcrime

To each and every MAVTI member and supporting agency we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May 2025 bring us fewer stolen vehicles, and more stolen recoveries! #autotheftprevention
This is great, but will do NOTHING to help Michigan’s #autotheft problems unless @PAAM_83 prosecutors start holding thieves responsible. Auto theft is NOT “just a property crime”. @RunWithRunestad@AlabasFarhat@MAVTI_Training
